Projects With ShareAShoe

In Suha Ashfaq’s founded Art & Calligraphy Club at Al-Hamra Academy, ten young students from grades 5-8 were taught how to custom-paint their own shoes in a 4-week intensive workshop.

See each week’s progress below!

Week 1: Designing their Dream Shoes

In Week 1, students were initiated into the art of custom shoe painting. Their minds brimmed with creative ideas along with the excitement of making their first custom-painted shoes.

The students' designs ranged from national flags and beloved football teams, to designs inspired by their favorite television shows. To ensure that every pair of shoes would attain the utmost perfection, each student  received a printed template to discuss their ideas and the meticulously plan each design element.

Week 2: New Shoes + Painting Process

In Week 2, students eagerly brought in their brand new shoes for the beginning of the painting process. Before painting, students cleaned their shoes with a deglazer (not pictured) to ensure that the paint won’t chip. As the session went on, students began to blend vibrant colors with the leather paint provided to perfectly complement their unique designs.
